Finished my entry for the "Terror" prompt at
fe_contest. It's pretty much a retelling of Ward and Lot's B supports with Echidna. (Not sure what inspired me to write about those two, out of the FE6 cast; well, I have written about Lot before, but still...)
I was trying to keep this short, so it turned out way shorter than I expected; it's only about 300 words. :/ Oh, and my other title for this story is, "Why did it have to be...?"
Once there was a village, much like the one we live in, now.
At the edge of the village, there lay a cave. It used to be a mine, but it had been abandoned long ago, and nobody in the village could remember why...
However, there were rumours that the place was haunted.
Despite these rumours, a couple of brave adventurers decided to explore the cave. As they entered, they found that it was deep, dark and damp, yet they steeled themselves for anything that might happen...
That is, until they ran into the monsters.
***
"Monsters?"
Ward gave Lot a pained look. "Hey, who's telling the story here?"
"But they weren't monsters, Ward."
"They were monsters!"
"They were snakes. Long, scaly, slithered around on the ground... Snakes."
Ward shuddered. "Don't remind me..."
"So what happened next, Ward?" asked Myu, with wide eyes.
Ward remembered his audience, and cleared his throat.
"Well, uh... One of the adventurers got so scared, that he ran out of the cave. But the other one remembered that he was supposed to be a brave warrior, and slew all the monsters by himself."
Lot wrinkled his brow. "That's not what happened. You ran out of the cave screaming, and I followed you out, to make sure you were all right... Remember?"
Ward glared at him. "Would you stop interrupting my story, Lot?"
"You shouldn't be telling such tales to Myu anyways, Ward," said Mary, who had little Myu sitting in her lap. "You might scare her."
"But I'm not scared, Big Sister Mary," said Myu. "And it sounds like Big Brother Lot was very brave."
"How about your Big Bro Ward, eh Myu?" said Ward, grinning. "I was brave too, right?"
Myu stared at him blankly. Ward turned to Lot, and shot him a dirty look.
Lot shrugged. "I was just telling the truth."
Ward let out a loud "Hmph!", amidst the sound of girlish giggles.
