Having posted my FE Contest entry, I'm now stuck in one of stages I'm usually in after writing something...

1. (Relief) Whew, I'm done. I think I'm done nitpicking (for now), I think I'll just post it and be done with it.

2. (Self-loathing) My writing sucks, doesn't it? Argh....

3. (Acceptance) Eh, I guess it isn't that bad. At least I've written something, right?

So I'm currently at Stage 2, self-loathing. XP Oddly enough, I still feel like writing at the moment, but nothing Fire Emblem-related (except maybe the Mary Sue challenge, and that isn't due for a while).

Dragon Age - A friendship/slice of life piece with Alistair and my City Elf Grey Warden. Normally, I don't like writing what is essentially a self-insert, but Alistair infuriated me with his conversation with a matronly party member (he has her sew up a hole in some clothing for him, but sounds like a whiny 6-year old while doing so >.<).

Now Alistair, I know you have mommy issues, but I'm pretty sure my elf (who are usually slaves in the Dragon Age world) would want to smack you after hearing that, and for acting like a spoiled brat. XP

Pokemon - A couple of Conway/Dawn ideas, involving Conway making it to the Pokemon League.

Still not sure why I like Conway so much, apart from the nerdiness... (Maybe because he doesn't look like a conventional nerd, apart from the glasses? I could be mistaken, though.) That leads me to...

Total Drama World Tour - Yes, Total Drama is my guilty pleasure, shut up. XP (Must support... Canadian cartoons...)

I've been bummed since my favourite character, Noah, was eliminated; he's supposed to be the token nerd, but is actually the Deadpan Snarker of the group. (I was amused to find that Noah is actually a popular character, even though he was the third one eliminated in the first series; I guess I wasn't the only fan...)

So anyways, I've been wanting to write Alejandro/Noah 'fic, mostly friendship, but with slashy overtones. (I find it funny that most fans like to slash Noah with Cody, after that one, completely accidental kiss in the first series. XD) Ironically, after the first series, I wanted to pair Noah with Eva (angry jock girls need love too!), which apparently is not as much of a crack pairing than I thought... Who knew?

On the subject of Canadian fandoms, I saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World a couple of weeks ago. A movie filmed in Toronto that's also set in Toronto? Yeah baby! (I didn't even realize that the movie was based on a Canadian comic, until later... So out of touch with my home country since I moved to the US, sigh.)

Anyways, the trailer is what first caught my eye; it's started off as a typical romantic comedy movie trailer, but suddenly turned into crazy Matrix-style fight scenes (I recall actually turning to the SO, and saying, "I kind of want to see that, now.") Then I learned that it was set in Toronto, and I was sold. ;P

So yeah, the movie... In the first few minutes, there were references to Legend of Zelda and Ducktales, which hooked me in... Admittedly, the movie was a little slow-moving at first, but once Scott started fighting "The League of Evil Exs" to win Ramona's heart, it got going pretty quickly. ;)

This is definitely a movie aimed at video game fans: for example, I was delighted when I recognized the Link to the Past fairy pond music during the first dream sequence. Plus, plenty of pop culture (and Canadian!) references abound, as well. And even though some of the characters are cliched, they're also flawed (Scott is not the nice guy that he seems to be, for example).

So yeah, I would recommend Scott Pilgrim to any video gamer, but you would have to keep in mind that the movie is indeed an odd mix of half indy-teen-romantic-comedy, and half video game hijinx. Still enjoyable, for what it's worth. ;)
