I didn't even realize the third game was coming out until a few days ago, but as soon as I knew, I had to have it. :P

I have to admit, the first two puzzles had me stumped this time. >.> But once I noticed the underlying theme behind them (which was the same theme behind most of the puzzles in the game; very fitting), it became easier.

This game was probably easier than the previous Layton games (or perhaps I'm just used to the series); at any rate, it didn't have the same-annoying-puzzle-just-increased-in-difficulty problem that the second game did.

Onto the spoilery parts... In this game, you find out about Layton's past, before he got his trademark top hat. :O (I must admit, I had a fangirl moment during the first flashback, where you see Layton wearing a different hat; similar to Luke's, in fact.)

At any rate, you also find out about Layton's lost love, Claire, in this game. Now, I liked Claire at first; I found the moments with her and Layton at the beginning, quite touching... At first.

*SPOILER* Then you find out that she was the one who gave him the top hat, and was the source of Layton's "a gentleman always wears his hat" line, which I still thought it was cute. *END SPOILER*

But after that... You also find out that the villain of the story was in love with Claire... As was Layton's archnemesis through all the games, Don Paolo. O_o (Which is both amusing and sad, really.) Then on top of that, she dies tragically in the past; by this point, my canon Mary Sue radar is going off like crazy. :/ *SPOILER* Not to mention that she's a time-travelling Mary Sue, ugh. *END SPOILER*

As for the other characters, I admit that I had a soft spot for Older Luke early on. (Yes, I have a thing for teenaged schoolboys with British accents, shut up.) On the flip side, I wasn't impressed with Flora's VA this time around; I don't know if it was partly because of the horrible voice, but I found Flora herself annoying in this game, too. :/ (Then again, she's usually regulated to the role of damsel-in-distress in these games, which ticks me off in general...)

On to the requisite Layton game plot twist... It wasn't as bad as that of the second game, but it was still pretty WTF. (I know the Layton games try to have "logical" reasons for what happens in game, but they usually turn out even more far-fetched than the original explanation. O_o)

As for the ending, I found it touching, and the climax leading up to it exciting, as always; although one of the villains not getting their comeuppance at the end left me with mixed feelings...

Still, I enjoyed the game a lot, and it definitely had its moments... Four words: Slot-machine machine gun. XD (I love it when Layton pulls a MacGuyver, like he did at the end of the first game.)

Aa for the mini-games, I really enjoyed the toy car one; the picture book mini-game was okay (although I found the wording/translation in the third book much more difficult than anything you'd find in a real kid's picture book). The parrot mini-game was annoyingly difficult, however; apparently, in the Japanese version, this mini-game was originally something involving hiragana, not trying to bounce a parrot off ropes.

So yeah, my love for logic puzzles will be sated for a while, thanks to Prof. Layton. ^_^ (And even though I've finished the game, I still have the bonus puzzles to work through...)

EDIT: In other news, new Edgeworth game coming out, yay... Hey, at least it's another Ace Attorney game. (Also, I want a full shot of that brief glimpse of Edgeworth removing his jacket from the trailer, plz thx... ;P)
