Ugh, can't seem to work on Burning Brand at the moment... I'm stuck on a rather tough chapter, where I have to rethink the entire battle scenario (secret passages don't exactly work in a Western, methinks). And for some reason, I feel like working on some other writing. :/ So annoying...

Anyways... I've been compiling a bunch of the plot ideas I've come up with, over the years; mostly Fire Emblem stuff, with a few FE8 ideas and a couple of Phoenix Wright ones, as well. These can all be found on my writing journal.

And to show that I'm not completely slacking (sort of), I'm posting an excerpt of an old, unfinished fic. (Pardon if it seems fragmented; although I'm considering finishing it, I'm afraid that it won't be any time soon...)

Lyn's bout of homesickness late one night leads her to be comforted by Kent. (Songfic; sequel to "That's All I've Got to Say")

Once, I can't remember...
I was, long ago, someone strange;
I was innocent and wise,
And full of pain...

Now, that I'm a woman,
Everything is strange...

Lyn awoke from her sleep, startled. The images in her dreams were strong, tonight...

She stared around the stone walls of her room in Castle Caelin, familiar, yet unfamiliar... She had grown up in the gers of the plains, and was so used to seeing walls of cloth; solid walls always seemed foreign to her. Even when she was travelling, first with her so-called "Legion", and then with Eliwood's army, the canvas tents they put up out of necessity made her feel more at home, rather than being surrounded by this cold, unfeeling stone.

Lyn tugged off the blanket that lay atop her bed. Its bright native design rather clashed with the sober colour of her bedclothes, but it being one of the few possessions that Lyn brought with her from the plains, she kept it there, anyways... It reminded her of home.

Wrapping herself in the blanket, she breathed in its scent deeply; it even smelled like the plains... The warm, smokiness of the hearthfires, the musk of tanned hides, the earthy fragrance of the grasslands... The smell alone was in strong contrast with the rest of her bedclothes; and as luxurious and sweet-smelling as those were, it just couldn't take the place of this rough, worn blanket.

Sighing, Lyn slid out of bed, and slipped on a pair of soft mocassins. Perhaps a walk in the night air would clear her head...

***

Once, when I was searching,
Somewhere out of reach;
Far away...
In a place I could not find,
Or heart obey...

Normally, Lyn would ease her homesickness by riding out to the hills and staring into the distance... But it was much too late to indulge in such a fancy, so she settled for the next best thing; climbing up the highest tower in Castle Caelin, and gazing in the general direction of the plains.

As she stood on the stone balcony, Lyn tugged the blanket still wrapped around her a little tighter around her body. Perhaps she should have dressed a bit more warmly, for it was freezing up here, especially at this time of night... But she had been far too preoccupied with her own thoughts at the time to really pay attention.

She had hoped the cold would clear her head, but instead, the images of the plains seemed even stronger, now...

"A copper for your thoughts, milady."

Lyn turned to see the silouette of an armoured knight, standing in the stone archway leading back into the tower.

"Kent..."

The knight placed a hand behind his head, sheepishly.

"Sorry to disturb you, Lyn, but I was just checking up on the midnight changing of the guard... Then I saw you walking up to
the tower, so I decided to look in on you; I hope you don't mind."

Lyn gave him a small, sad smile. "No, of course I don't mind, Kent..."

Still, the knight hesitated in the doorway. "Shall I leave you to your thoughts, milady?" he asked carefully.

The girl paused in thought for a moment, then shook her head.

"No... Please come join me, Kent. I think could use the company, tonight."

Inclining his head in a diffident manner, Kent then walked to his liege lord's side, and stared out into distance, just as Lyn had done a mere moment ago.

"I've always loved the view from this tower," he commented softly. "When I was younger, I liked to think that one could see all of Elibe from this vantage point..."

At this, Lyn remained silent. The knight gave her a sidelong glance.

"Lyn..." he started to say; the girl started a bit, at the sound of her name. "Is there something that is bothering you?" asked Kent.

When Lyn seemed hesistant to say anything, he raised an eyebrow. "Or need I even ask?"

Heehee, I loved that 'fic. It was SO amusing. And fun.

(Yeah, why is it that when you have all the time in the world, the ideas won't come...but the second you have no time to write, ideas come pouring into your brain?)
