So much love for for "Avatar: the Last Airbender" at the moment. ^_^ It's shown on Nick, and is an American-made cartoon with an anime feel to it, down to the oriental setting... But it has an animation style that looks distinctly Western, and beautifully drawn; almost Miazaki-like. Oh, and lot of the humour is very American, as well.

The plot is somewhat typical of a fantasy-type anime: the heroes include a child-like "chosen one", a young girl wanting to learn more about her powers, her comic relief brother, and a couple of animal sidekicks. The villains include a sulky, scarred prince trying to regain his honour, and his rather likeable, wise old uncle. There is also the typical elemental powers on the show (the Fire Nation being the oppressor of all the other elements), but it's just executed so well, that it feels original. Oh, and the action sequences rock... Heck, everything about this show I find to be well-done. ^_^;

The episodes just seem to keep on getting better and better, the story more complex, and almost dark in places; you have to watch the whole series to get the depth of it. Avatar really restores my faith in American animation. ^_^ (Don't get me wrong, I love anime, but I grew up on Western cartoons.) And yes, I realize the irony, since the show itself is very anime-ish in the first place. ;)P

The past few episodes (including tonight's) have been so... Squee. What with learning more about the main character's (the hero and the rival's) past the last episode, and then to have this one is just... Eeeee. So much love. ^_^

Also, I am beginning to really like Prince Zuko, dang it. I did not want to like that hot-headed princeling, but that glimpse into his past last week, before he became bitter and jaded... Argh.

Ahem. Anyways, I highly recommend this show. Yes, it may seem kiddie in places, but... Eh, you'll have to judge it for yourself. ;)P
