Oh, forgot to mention this... Last week, I managed to snag a copy of Terry Pratchett's "The Last Hero" from the discount bookstore. (I had seen it for sale there before, but they had reduced it to less than half the cover price, so I couldn't resist. ^_^;)

At first, I thought this book was an illustrated version of Pratchett's old short story, "The Last Hero", but it turns out that this was a different story altogether (although it was still about Cohen the Barbarian)... Plus there was the added bonus of Paul Kidby's gorgeous illustrations. ^_^ (Reminds me of how much I miss the British covers for the Discworld and Harry Potter books; Canada uses the British ones, rather than the American covers.)

Reading the book also reminds me how much I love Pratchett's work, and how he thumbs his nose at all the fantasy conventions, storywise. ^_^ I'd also have to mention that he is the author I most wish to emulate in my own stories; he writes humour in a fantasy setting, but in an intelligent way (I think I've got the fantasy and humour part down... Sort of).

I didn't get to read Pratchett's short story version of "The Last Hero." Where would I go about finding it?

And Kidby's illustrations are love in its purest form. As is Terry Pratchett. ^_^ <3

After searching for the short story mentioned above, I realized that I've made a mistake... The story is actually called "Troll Bridge". ^_^; (I think I got confused, 'cause Cohen mentions that he is one of the "last heroes" in the story...)

This link points out which book compilations the story has appeared in: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/1777/short_stories.html

Hope that helps! (Oh, and I should also mention that I also enjoy Josh Kirby's illustrations, as well as Paul Kidby's; the former is the actual guy who draws all the British covers of the Discworld books. They're a bit... Unusual, but completely in keeping with the flavour of the novels. ^_^)
