I've been noticing this "10 Favourite Disney songs" meme floating around, and being the old-school Disney fan that I am, I decided to post my own favourites as well. :) (You get a cookie if you recognize some of the more obscure songs!)
Part of Your World (Little Mermaid)
One of my all time favourite Disney movies and songs (my SO's too; he adores Ariel XD). Her voice is so pure and lovely in this...
Prince Ali (Aladdin)
I like a lot of songs from Aladdin, but I've become fond of this one lately, after my SO pointed out how complex the rhyming patterns are in this song. (Howard Ashman really was a talented lyricist!)
He's a Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)
I love Lady and the Tramp, but it's one of those older Disney movies that often gets overlooked. I chose this out of the many great songs in the film, partly because it's sung by the incomparable Peggy Lee. :)
Why Don'tcha Do Right (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
Roger Rabbit counts as Disney, right? Um, I have no idea how this got here... *whistles innocently* (This almost got replaced by some more obscure Disney songs but uh... Yeah.)
TaleSpin theme
As you might've noticed, I'm a big fan of the old Disney Afternoon TV shows, and this was my most favourite of them all (it's even where I sort of derived my 'Net handle ^_^;). Try and sing the lyrics near the end 5 times fast, I dare you!
Sky Pirates (TaleSpin)
Did I mention I love TaleSpin? Well, the character singing this song was the main reason why. ^_^; He's a pirate and a pilot, what's not to like?
A Happy Working Song (Enchanted)
I love Enchanted, because it's Disney making fun of its own fairy tale movies. ;) This is my favourite song from the movie, more for the scene rather than the song itself. What kind of animal friends can a Disney "princess" find in modern day New York? Watch and find out! (Also, the very last part of the scene always cracks me up.)
A Girl Worth Fighting For (Mulan)
Catchy like most Disney songs, and I've always liked the very abrupt ending...
Be Prepared (Lion King)
A very rare villain song, and sung by Jeremy Irons no less. (Well mostly... I can almost swear the very end of it is being sung by Jim Cummings, who did the voice of Ed in the movie, and is also a very prolific voice actor in his own right - for example, he also sung Sky Pirates, seen above. Why yes, I am a fangirl of his, why do you ask? ;)
Perfect World (The Emperor's New Groove)
AKA the opening theme to the movie (which I've always enjoyed; it was a nice change of pace from Disney's other animated movies). BTW, the song was sung by Tom Jones and written by Sting. :)
Being the Disney fangirl that I am, I can't resist adding a couple of more obscure favourites (I will spare you any further embedding though):
Welcome to the 40 Thieves (Aladdin 3) - This isn't bad for a movie sequel song (it reminds me of Sky Pirates ;P). Also, John Rhys Davies sings briefly in this... 'Nuff said.
Beautiful Briny Sea (Bedknobs and Broomsticks) - I used to see this movie all the time when I was a child, so I have a soft spot for it; I liked it way better than Mary Poppins for live-action/animation. And it has Angela Lansbury in it! It's nice to see older people getting love. ;) (BTW, this has undersea animation predating Little Mermaid by almost 20 years!)
I'd also add "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella, but that would mostly be for sentimental value (I don't adore the film now as much as did as a child :/).
In related news, I am (tentatively) looking forward to Disney's new 2-D animated film, "The Princess and the Frog", coming out this November. I was so disappointed in Disney when they closed down their classical animation studio in favour of 3-D animation (most of which turned out mediocre movies - "Bolt" was pretty good though, but I think the studio had changed hands by then). But since the head of Pixar is now in charge of Disney's classical animation, I think I'll stay cautiously optomistic. :)
