Been watching Kyou Kara Maou on Youtube lately... I can see why the series is popular; it's got a lot of what I enjoy in an anime series: fantasy, comedy... (And the shonen-ai elements are a bonus. XD)
Anyways, just got introduced to the character of Anissina, a wacky female inventor who resides in the castle of one of the main characters, Gwendal. Being the figure skating fangirl that I used to be, I was immediately reminded of one of my favourite ice skating dance pairs from a while back, Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat.
Now, normally I would just chalk up the name similarities as just being coincidental, but neither name is very common... Plus, Gwendal and Anissina are supposedly childhood friends in Kyou Kara Maou; anime Anissina has a vaguely Russian last name (von Khrennikov; Marina is actually Russian)... And Anissina even has the same bright red hair that Marina does! XD
Okay, maybe I'm just a dork. :P Still, the thought of a couple of anime characters being named after figure skaters just strikes me as oddly amusing...
