Dragon Age ramblings

September already? And it got so cold right away, too... (Not that I'm complaining; it's been a hot summer, and I hate heat.)

Anyways... Sorry I haven't been around; been playing a lot of video games lately: Lego Harry Potter (have a weakness for Lego games), Rock Band 2 (again)... But mostly I've been playing Dragon Age for the past month. (I haven't played a Bioware game in years, and since I've stopped playing WoW, I've needed a fantasy RPG fix of some sort. ;P)

First off, my character. I usually play an elven archer, but I read that duel-wielder rogues put out better DPS, so I decided to play one for my first playthrough; I also decided on a city elf instead of a wild one because of this.

Anyways, my usual name choice didn't seem to fit such a character, so I ended up naming her... Lyndis. (Picked mostly because it sounded vaguely elfin. :P)

I also decided to play Easy mode to start with (I hadn't played a PC RPG in forever). That was a probably a good idea, since it took me a while to get used to controlling a party (I had even forgtten how to make my party stay in place, rather than rushing into battle; you think I would've remembered since I had played Baldur's Gate before...)

Speaking of my party, I have to talk about the romantic choices... There are four in total, and you get three choices depending on what sex you play, one of them being a same sex/bi choice. (Much better than Baldur's Gate, where you got 3 girls to pick from, but only one guy. :P)

Ironically, the only character I was interested in initially was the one I couldn't have a romance with: I found Alistair a bit too mopey at the beginning, and Leliana somewhat of a girly-girl... But Morrigan's bitchiness could be very amusing (even though her dislike of altruism made me lose rep with her, at times).

So I decided on the last romantic choice, Zevran, the elven assassin. It was probably a good choice, because I have a weakness for his character type; namely, the Latin Lover (for the pick-up lines alone, it was worth it! XP) Very easy to get into a romance with, but oddly enough, very difficult to have fall in love with you (I think he'll only fall in love after an event near the end of the game).

The funny part is, the other romantic choices kept on falling in love with me before Zevran would (unintentional on my part, of course; I swear I was picking non-romantic dialogue choices >.>). It got to the point that I ended up starting the other two romances, just so I could get the achievements (without saving, of course). Apparently, my Lyn is a pimp. ;P

Speaking of romances in Dragon Age, I do have to mention what happened after I initiated the first one:

Me: Yay, I finally got a romance!
Game: *fade to black*
Me: Cool, a cutscene!
Game: *fantasy equivalent of bam-chika-wow-wow music*
Me: O_o *averts gaze from screen*

So... Apparently surprise sexytimes can embarass me, especially if I'm not expecting it. >.> (Oh, it wasn't anything graphic, I was just... Not expecting to see it happen on-screen.)

At any rate, I've finally finished my first playthrough of the game. (My boy Zevran got the finishing blow on the final boss, a badass, slo-mo crit that I wish I got a screenshot of.) I haven't played the expansion yet, but I still have to check out the rest of the Origin stories, so I'll need to make some new characters to check those out, as well.

I definitely want to play a mage next (admittedly, they are way OP in the game ;P); I wanted to name her Lute, but I'm going to go with Roy (Mustang), since I haven't gotten Morrigan's romance yet. I'm still following the Fire Emblem naming theme though, so I've gone with the gender-switched ones I came up with a while back (Lyndor for an elven archer, and Sienna for a dual-wielding human warrior ;P).

In other news, I've decided to write something serious for the [livejournal.com profile] fe_contest challenge this month. ;P (Me, serious? With that prompt? Yep.) I was hoping to write something other than FE7, but I've already typed up the outline, so we'll see how well that goes...
